Texture Tips
With the snowy weather my love for texture becomes more apparent!!
Texture is the look, feel, drape or hang of fabric. There are infinite possibilities with the fiber, yarn, weave and finish that creates fabric textures! I get excited just thinking about texture!
Texture Tips:
- Remember-attention is drawn to areas that have texture!
- Place the texture on areas you want to highlight and emphasize.
- Choose the textures that bring you comfort.
- Enhance simple clothing with interesting texture: ex crepe, corduroy, velvet, etc
- Choose clothes with decorative trim and borders to add interesting focal points, contrast and variety
- Choose textures for the impression or message you want your clothing to say
- Choose textures that help balance your figure: thick bulky fabrics will overpower a small figure.
- Texture can be used to draw attention to or away from certain areas on figure: When dressing your widest point, add heavier textures above or below the widest point to balance. A cowl neckline or yoke to neckline can draw attention towards the face rather then prominent hip bones or long legs.
- Layering is key to camouflage and balancing an asymmetrical figure.
Make a list of your favorite clothing items. What textures are they? When shopping think of these textures as you add pieces to your wardrobe.
